Steinway & Sons

Steinway to Join Auto Exotica at the 2015 AutoShow

Stunning pianos complement exclusive automobiles

TORONTO — January 29, 2015 — The aspirational Auto Exotica exhibit is always a huge hit with show-goers, and this year they’ll get a taste not just of the cars but of a “grand” lifestyle itself with the addition of Steinway & Sons, makers of the world’s finest pianos.

Embodied by the finest examples of automotive excellence on the road today, including Ferrari, Maserati, Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Bentley, Rolls Royce, McLaren, Tesla and Pagani, the Auto Exotica display delivers an exceptional experience, to be enhanced by the addition of the Steinway Lounge. The Steinway Lounge will feature a collection of 3 Steinway Grand Pianos and a one-of-a-kind miniature replica of the historic 1903 Steinway White House grand piano, created by master Canadian artist Paul Gentile. The furniture in the Steinway Lounge is provided by Roche Bobois. Steinway performer Chris Donnelly will be playing on the various pianos in the Steinway Lounge on the Auto Show’s VIP night February 12th, and the Canadian Opera Company will be doing the same on another Steinway Piano on the Mercedes stage this same evening.

Paul Gentile’s miniature White House Piano celebrates the 100,000th Steinway piano that was donated to US President Theodore Roosevelt, and took more than 16 years of meticulous design, production and finishing — a fully functioning grand piano in 1:7 scale, the first non-company instrument ever to earn the Steinway & Sons name. It has been offered for sale at a seven-figure price point. The original White House Steinway grand piano served through seven US presidents, Theodore Roosevelt through Franklin Roosevelt, and was then donated to the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History. This miniature replica is true in every detail, and involved the artist’s creating thousands of miniature parts and tooling, including a scale replica of the rim press patented by the Steinway family in the 1870s.

“It’s an honour to welcome Steinway & Sons to the enhanced Auto Exotica display,” says CIAS president Benny Leung. “I can’t imagine a better fit, and we’re delighted to give visitors to the show an evocative experience of the entire Auto Exotica lifestyle.”
